The word of God in the Bible

Christians do not pretend that the Bible is God’s Word that proves itself.

In the Bible we find evidence that it is the word and deed of the living God. Hundreds of verses in the Old and New Testaments clearly state that the Bible is the Word of the living God. More than 3,000 times it says “God said” or “God said so”.

  • We all know that in the past God spoke to his people through the prophets and passed on the word of God to their people. Therefore, we quote several verses from the Old and New Testaments that prove that the Bible is the word of God.

Let’s start with the Old Testament

Exodus 4: 30-31 “Aaron spoke all the words which Yahweh had spoken to Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people. And the people believed: and when they heard that Jehovah had visited the children of Israel, and that he had seen their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshiped ”.

Joshua 3: 9-10 “Then Joshua said unto the children of Israel, Come hither, and hear the words of the LORD your God. And Joshua said, By this you shall know that the living God is with you.

  • It is certain that the word of God is eternal and will exist. The word of God cannot be changed by anyone or it will never end.

Isaiah 40: 8 “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever”.

Ps 119: 89 “Thy word, O LORD, is in heaven.”

Mark 13:31 “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away”.

Deuteronomy 12: 32 “All that I command you you shall observe to do: you shall not add thereto, nor diminish from it”.

  • The word of God is powerful and useful to people

Jeremiah 23:29 “Is not my word like fire, saith the LORD, and as a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?”

Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is able to discern thoughts and the things that are in the heart ”.

Psalms 119: 105 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

  • God’s writings were not only limited to the Old Testament and the New Testament. God spoke to His people in a different way. The Word became old and came into the world so that people could see His miracles and teachings (read John 1:14). Jesus Christ, the Word of God when speaking to people, says, “I say you” or “I am he”.

Hebrews 1: 1-2 “In the past God spoke to the prophets in various ways from the prophets, but in these last days has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds.”

John 16:12 “I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.”

Matthew 5: 38-40 “Ye have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

John 14: 6 “Then Jesus said unto Thomas, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 8:12 “Again therefore Jesus spake unto them, saying, I am the light of the world; He that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life ”.

  • Christians have and believe the true word of God, as God’s Word (Jesus Christ) has proven.

John 17: 8 “For the words which thou gavest me I have given unto them; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me”.

John 17:17 “Sanctify them in Your truth. Your word is truth.”

John 15: 3-4 “Ye are already clean because of the word which I have spoken unto you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; so neither can ye, except ye abide in me. ”

  • The Bible is the word of God, not human words, but God has written to us through His representatives.

1 Thessalonians 2:13 “And for this cause we thank God continually, that, when ye had received the word of God, ye heard it, not as the words of men, but as the truth of the word of God, which worketh in you.”

1 Corinthians 2:13 “Which things also we speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.”

2 Peter 1:21 “For no prophecy ever came by the will of man: but holy men of God spoke, being moved by the Holy Spirit.

2 Timothy 3: 16-17 “Every Scripture inspired of God is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness; that the man of God may be perfect, through all good works.

  • Conclusion

The Bible is God’s word to His people. All that is written is true because the word of God is completely true. It may be difficult for a believer to understand them sometimes. But believing that the word of God is true leads us to pray to God to ask Him to explain to us what we do not understand. Psalms 19: 7-8 “The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.

The Bible is the word of God that He used to write for us by His people. It is certain that everyone who believes in God believes that the Word of God cannot be changed or expired. Psalms 40: 8 “I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.”

Thank you Lord, who lives in us by your word.
